BlackLake, A storied refuge for the aristocracy. It is the place where Cain's mother and President Richard Withers's ex-wife unfortunately died during the war.

BlackLake city

Summary[]

BlackLake is a picturesque lakeside city far to the south of the Northern capital. The lake itself has been famed for its splendor since Patria was first settled, lending its name to the town that grew up on its shores as a retreat for the wealthy. While not much can be said in terms of convenient access from the capital, the pleasant climate of the town, nestled as it is between the surrounding mountains, nevertheless proved just the environment for aristocrats and industrialists to recuperate from the hustle and bustle of the city.[1]

There are many institutions for social welfare in the vicinity, notably the headquarters of the War Orphan Support Foundation, established after the war for independence. The real purpose of these institutions was merely to deflect criticism of the upper class from the exhausted populace, however, in truth they did almost nothing.

Similarly, a refugee camp was set up during the War, but was most probably intended to discourage the South from attacking BlackLake. Strangely, the one time in its long history when BlackLake was touched by war was an attack on this very refugee camp. It was a small-scale skirmish about which much remains unclear, but the incident is well known for the tragic death of Mrs. Withers, who was visiting the refugees and got caught in the crossfire. Otherwise little damage was done, and soon after war BlackLake regained its status as a quite retreat.
