Returning to the Road is the thirteenth chapter of To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts.
Summary[]
Liza discovers William is approaching Schaal and tries to save her, but is stopped by Claude. As William approached Schaal, his body gradually collapsed. William regained consciousness and recognized Schaal at the last moment before falling. When he put his hand close to Schaal's cheek and said goodbye to her, he closed his eyes and fell to the ground. After the incident, "The Coup de Grace troop" handed over William's corpse to the military to retrieve to prevent him from resurrecting in the village again.Schaal tells Liza, who comes to her out of concern, that she initially did not forgive Hank for killing her father, but after experiencing her father's resuscitation and loss of sanity, she gradually let go of her hatred for Hank. Meanwhile, Claude's subordinate Gerald Corlani agrees with Schaal's courage and says that as the ones who survived the war, they must take responsibility for dealing with the Incarnate.
Rivulet Wood's villagers gave Schaal a bag of money to express their gratitude. At first, Schaal was reluctant to accept it, but Liza took the money on her behalf and asked her not to cause trouble to others. After Schaal takes one last look at the house she lives in, she decided to joins Claude's squad to search for Hank, though his whereabouts remain unknown. Schaal asking Liza and Claude request: to travel with her follow "The Coup de Grace troop" to locate Hank, saying that she has something to say to Hank. Claude tells her, they "The Coup de Grace troop" received news that someone suspected to be Hank was with other Incarnates in the North. Even that it is a dangerous mission that the are on but allows her to accompany them. On the other side, under the cliff of a certain snowy mountain, Hank is determined to fulfill their Incarnate troop's oath and fight the Sasquatch Incarnate and kill him. However, after killed the Sasquatch Incarnate and the sight of blood on the hands, makes Hank is too scared of transforming, remembering the destruction he caused as the Lord of the Beasts.
In the capital Newfort, the government officials were prepares to confront the growing Incarnates threat as political tensions escalate across Patria. The four government mens are talking about the the proceedings of the extermination of the Incarnates, and report that "The Coup de Grace troop" successfully completed the mission in Rivulet Wood Village. After hearing the report, Richard Withers, the president of Patria, ordered officials to send a message to "The Coup de Grace troop", explains he wants the extermination done within they go to war on New Patria. The two other officials men who were in the room with the president leave and discuss their thoughts on the war and idea about to recommend Claude for the role of captain of "The Coup de Grace troop", they saying that Cain who the leader of New Patria is Claude's half elder brother, and President Richard is Cain and Claude's father. Facing President Richard's plan to let his younger brother exterminated his elder brother who had fallen into evil and rebelled, doing so would boost his image and make his son Claude a national hero, two officials men felt fear and helplessness and also felt great sympathy for Cain and Claude.
