One day, Will taught Schaal to use the elephant gun to hunt, but Schaal could not use the elephant gun to hunt and failed. When Will and Schaal took the orphans home, they found federal soldiers at the door of the house. The federal soldiers told Will He is compatible with the research conditions of the Incarnate. Will knows that as long as he joins the army, the government will promise to provide funds to the orphanage and the town. Will discusses this matter with Schaal that night. Schaal hopes that her father can return safely. She expresses that she with the orphans would wait for him to come back, and after the war Will finally did it, but he had transformed into a giant brown dragon in the form of Incarnate. Even so, Schaal and the villagers accepted Will's return.

Although Will still maintains human rationality and gets along well with Schaal and the orphans. But after a while, he didn't know what happened and began to scream in the middle of the night, disturbing the villagers. In addition, many domestic animals in the village were attacked by unknown animals and were torn to pieces. Schaal refuses to believe her father is behind the attack because no one has seen him attack livestock. Although the villagers believed that Will would never do such a thing, they still had to restrain Will to ensure that it did not happen. But the orphans finally separated from Schaal at the advice of the villagers and went to other orphanages to ensure their safety.

That night, Schaal found her father Will lying on the ground dying for some unknown reason. What surprised her even more was a man in a white robe. The man stood next to her father Will, shot him and then left and made Schaal was devastated by this. Shortly after burying her father, Schaal decided that since her father died before she could learn anything, she must find the reasons and answers to all this. He said that their Incarnates could not be shot by ordinary bullets, he explained that he was looking for someone who was the same Incarnate as Will.

At this time, Danny returned to the town to bring some blood-stained money back to his mother and the townspeople. Later, when Hank asks Danny if his recent "job" is related to the attack on a nearby merchant's carriage and pulls a weapon on him, Schaal defends Danny and explains to Hank that he has no evidence. It shows that the carriage attack has something to do with Danny.Danny admits that he has killed many merchants who passed through his hometown with goods to help the town prosper in order to earn income for his mother and the townspeople. Then Danny began to transform into an avatar and attack Schaal, but was stoped by Hank. Hank severely injured Danny when he avoided attacking many townspeople. Hank was saddened by Danny's loss of humanity and killed him.
