Hraesvelgr ( フレースヴェルグ , Furēsuvuerugu )or Reese Balis (リース・バーリス, Rīsu bārisu) is a Hraesvelgr Incarnate and member of Incarnate Soldier Unit during the War.
Appearance[]
A bird like Incarnate. Noted to have a wing span of 40 ft. and all the regular bird hallmarks (beak, talons, wings, ect.)
Personality[]
He likes flying and eating heads all the time. He is also reveled to have clashed with Nidhogg (John William Bancroft) not for personal or intellectual reasons, just purely instinctual. By the time Hraesvelgr was accustomed to his new form, he had already lost most of his sanity, much more so after the war ended.
Abilities[]
Flight: as an avian Incarnate, the Hraesvelgr is capable of flight, although taking off was time-consuming process due to his size.
Enhanced Strength: He is strong enough to transport military supplies and personel, and can even carry smaller Incarnates. His wings can also blow away enemy soldiers just by flapping.
Enhanced Durability: His feathers provide excellent protection, as anything less than a miracle shot from a large-bore sniper riffle that struck right into his eye would only anger him.
History[]
Reese is a servant from northern farm The Madder Estate, he was fell in love with Rubia Madder, the daughter of the landowner of the local farm. Once when the war was about to break out, Reese invited Rubia to move to the south with her. Although Rubia knew Reese's intention, as a Madder family member who had to shoulder the responsibility of protecting the manor and the local villagers, she declined. Rubia said that when Reese becomes a great person, she will consider marrying him. Reese and Rubia agreed that when the apple trees in the manor bear fruit and he becomes a war hero, he will come to pick her up.
Later, Reese showed that he had the qualifications to become an Incarnate soon after joining the army. Although he had a very close relationship with many members of the Incarnate troop, he was talking to John William Bancroft, who became the Nidhogg Incarnate, about the differences in character and ethics towards the enemy. They started arguing with each other about this issue (maybe it has something to do with the difference in instinct between the two as Incarnates) . According to Hank, the captain of Incarnate troop, the reason of Reese decided to become an Incarnate was just to protect his lover, but he did not consider the consequences of giving up his identity as a human and combining with his lover once he transformed into an Incarnate. Later, Reese gradually began to lose his temper not long after becoming an Incarnate.
After the war, Reese participated in the parade, His name was mentioned by Liza when Hank and Schaal arrived at Roguehill. When Reese returned to The Madder Estate, it was in decline due to the development of the railway and was even in decline during the war. Because Reese has become an Incarnate, many servants of The Madder Estate have left, causing the farmland of the estate to become deserted. Even so, Reese still couldn't leave Rubbia's side. Later, Hank, the former captain of the Incarnate troop, received news that Reese was constantly circling outside The Madder Estate, so he followed Schaal to the manor. Although Hank knows that Reese has not done anything harmful, he must complete his crusade and become full of traps while observing Reese's actions. It happened that a bourgeois named Wayne wanted to acquire and revive the land of The Madder Estate and asked Rubia to marry him, which attracted Reese's attention.
Hank shot Reese with a shotgun and aroused his anger. When he lured Reese to the trap, Reese fell to the ground due to a bullet in his wing. Just when Hank was about to kill Reese, Reese immediately broke away from the mechanism and flew directly into the mansion to endure Wayne's shooting. Rubia discovered Reese and recognized his current appearance. She knew it was time to fulfill their agreement and was grateful for Reese's return. Later, Reese picked up Rubia and let her carry her on his back and immediately flew into the sky. , he left under the watchful eyes of Hank and Schaal. Although Hank chased Reese, he only found a piece of red feather that he dropped. He guessed that Reese might have dropped Rubia somewhere where no one could find him, and would never come back here.
