Summary[]

Sappho Buggane.

Sappho Buggane.

A special hunting gun that discharges rounds of overwhelming destructive power. The north of the Patrian continent, perhaps because of its cold, is known for wild animals that grow much larger than their counterparts in the Old World. Early settlers found themselves unable to bring them down with their existing guns. To remedy that problem, people created guns that gradually became so large that they were eventually advertised as being able to take down an elephant.

Sappho earned fame as a manufacturer, but with the technology of the time, the guns were heavy and unwieldy, and the fierce recoil led to frequent injuries. Their power exceeded most of their needs, and the gun's public reception was less than stellar. As time went on, powder and barrel improvements addressed the problem of big game, and the so-called elephant guns faded from memory.

However, out in the mountains, there remained villages that still had to deal with wolves and deer, and they kept using upgrades of the old-fashioned elephant guns to fend them off. Modern technology came to produce much higher-performance elephant guns, and complex and specialized structures were adopted, including designs that ensconced the cylinder against the barrel. These changes stopped gas from leaking out, which increased its power. They were also ideal for preventing injury to the arm supporting the barrel. On the other hand, they led to tremendous recoil likely to dislocate a shoulder or knock down a notice.[1]
